Within the vital Healthcare sector, one of the most important elements needed to provide an effective service is an integrated communication solution. In an environment where monitoring, critical messaging and rapid response are the essential requirements, Multitone has a proven track record and years of experience in providing integrated communications strategies specifically tailored to the needs of this demanding sector.

Multitone has provided communication solutions for hospitals, care homes, surgeries and dedicated clinics and has identified the unique challenges specific to the Healthcare industry. Our technicians and strategists are experienced in providing solutions that are not only cost-effective, but that encompass a broad functionality to suit the diverse range of users.
When we were faced with the challenge of providing the communications solution for a large hospital, it was necessary to tackle not only the networking requirements of a large number of staff across diverse departments, but also the vast physical size of the site. The newly-redeveloped hospital covered more than a million square feet of space and included a medical research facility, comprehensive in-patient services in all medical specialities, 36 outpatient clinics and over six hundred beds.
In addition to traceable, fast, efficient communication for the delivery of exceptionally high standards of service, a key area for healthcare organisations is protecting and connecting staff as they carry out their day-to-day duties. Staff needed to be able to feel confident of their own security so they could focus on patient care and research. A successful communication strategy within the hospital needed to not only cover the networking requirements of staff, but also the constant monitoring and response needed to facilitate an environment which could be extremely volatile. The round-the-clock nature of the hospital meant that a situation could change in an instant, and in an emergency a rapid response function was critical. As well as localised networking within each department the communication strategy needed to encompass hospital security staff, visiting personnel and automated alarm systems.
The size, age and day-to-day mechanics of the hospital were also important considerations in the communication systems which we implemented. Some of the buildings were old and dated and contained extremely busy practices, so an easy, quick and cost effective installation was imperative. Following a detailed briefing and thorough site survey, we identified the ideal product to facilitate the communication solution for the hospital was a paging system.
Even with the latest wireless solutions, paging delivers instantaneous text and voice messages to a user or to a whole team more quickly, more securely and more cost effectively than any other radio technology. In an emergency, a message can be sent out for the recipient to provide an immediate response. In addition to paging calls, our systems provide the ability to link to a range of alarms, monitoring equipment and nurse call solutions for fast responses to crash calls, fire alarms and other emergencies.
We also installed our EkoTek system which gave individual staff enhanced safety and security. Healthcare staff are often in an isolated or vulnerable position and the emphasis is on their employer to create a safe working environment. The EkoTek personal security system allows staff to request assistance immediately, providing them with the peace of mind to carry out their daily duties unencumbered.
We also used our centralised alarms management solution, Centinal, to reduce the multiple alarm management systems employed across the site to one single alarm reception centre, ensuring fast, accurate responses to any emergency situation, however complex.
Feedback from the customer showed an immediate improvement in communication within the hospital. Staff reported an added sense of security in the knowledge that the system was in place, and the ease of installation avoided disruption to staff and patients.
Multitone engineers provide solutions not just products and we are focused on providing an integrated communications network for your business. From concept through to completion and beyond, our strategies ensure that every entity within your network can communicate effectively and intelligently.
