Power Station
One of our customers, a large power station, needed a solution which would facilitate the networking of a large number of personnel in diverse locations, and allow for effective communication both on and off site. The site itself was extremely large and made up of a number of separate buildings sometimes manned by a single staff member. Lone workers could go days without seeing another person. It was therefore imperative that the strategy integrated a communication system where, in the case of an emergency such as an injury by an employee or a safety or security issue, personnel were able to be located wherever they were on site.
After extensive investigations into the specific challenges that the site required, we selected the EkoTek system. This award-winning communications solution included response call and alerting systems which perfectly suited the needs of our customer. It was able to provide a method of communication between staff enabling them to call for security or assistance, as well as providing a rapid response for emergencies by sending the alert with location information, dramatically reducing the search area from a site of several hundred acres to within a few metres of the caller.
As well as being easy to install and with a user-friendly functionality, Multitone selected EkoTek because of its ability to operate on a low power network and, by using indoor and outdoor repeaters, it was able to be extended to cover the entire site including footpaths, ladders and security buildings.
With the implementation of this wireless communications solution, the power station was better able to manage and control calls for assistance and respond to threats and emergencies on site. Staff and visitor safety was optimised and management felt confident they were upholding their commitment to give their workforce the best chance of recovery should an accident happen.

Another customer in the oil & gas sector with production centred on the five central North Sea fields was looking for a way for staff to keep in touch, but having difficulty due to the restrictions on the use of certain technologies in hazardous environments.
After a thorough site analysis where we investigated the specific communications problems the customer was experiencing, we identified the need to develop and implement a robust and reliable system which was effective first time, every time. After a review of communications options which met the requirements of the customer, Multitone identified that the system with the most effective capabilities was the Access 3000 paging system. The system utilises fully Intrinsically Safe approved pagers, effectively furnishing staff and visitors with a personal time-critical messaging service. The system also enabled the customer to link plant monitoring systems, fire alarms and many other alerts and network devices for a totally integrated hazardous area messaging solution.
